Protect Yourself This Summer, Don’t Share your Private Info Online.
Your financial information is private, and sharing that information online or with someone in person can put you at major risk.
By sending your member number, account number, name, email, phone number, SSN, or anything of that nature, you are giving away key components to accessing your account. Unfortunately, the person requesting this information can use it to log into your account or even impersonate you.
Occasionally, scammers may reach out to see if you can send them money. Therefore, if you are looking to transfer money online, please only do so with people you know and trust. Most importantly, sending your account information online is not a secure method! If your account is ever hacked, that person also has your information.
Like most scams, they can be easily noticed by bad grammar, spelling, and most messages are hard to understand in general.
R1CU will never ask you to send your personal information on unsecured sites, text you for personal information, or tell others to ask you for your private information. If you ever need help or you think someone is trying to steal your information, please contact us at 800-375-3674 or visit a location in person. Take the extra steps to verify to keep yourself and others safe.
